Football Walk of Fame – new inductees

Jimmy Greaves and Denis Law among this year’s inductees at the celebrated Football Walk of Fame at the National Football Museum in Manchester in June 2017. We were lucky to be contracted to photograph the event, which was covered in the media. Each portrait of the chosen elite players is drawn by The Master of Movement Paul Trevillion. The whole concept of the Football Walk of Fame is the brainchild of musician and composer David Courtney. The Football Walk of Fame is there for everyone to enjoy, take yourself, your kids, your grand kids or your football team and enjoy the Walk of Fame at the National Football Museum.

PhotoAid Global partners with Workaid.

PhotoAid Global is the UK based photography service that connects photographers to charities and NGOs both here in the UK and abroad, and also curates exhibitions to drive awareness and revenue for good causes.

Workaid, winner of the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, tackles poverty by providing disadvantaged people with the tools they need to learn a skilled trade and earn a living. Since 1986, Workaid has helped around 100,000 disadvantaged people to break the cycle of poverty and build better lives for themselves and their families.

How did the partnership come about?

Dr Vanessa Champion is founder of PhotoAid and lives in Tring in Hertfordshire, she was looking for someone to fix up the old cameras that PhotoAid receives as donations. Mutual friends recommended she contact Workaid, based in neighbouring Chesham. One brainstorming meeting later with Rob Levine, chairman of Workaid, a partnership was forged.

It’s great to form partnerships with organisations we have real synergies with and PhotoAid is definitely one of those.” Said Rob Levine. “At Workaid we are updating our website and social media presence; arresting and exciting photos are a critical part of that. When we connected with Vanessa it was clear that she had just the sort of skills and connections to help us down that path. Brilliantly, she is also building our own capabilities so that we are enabled to take better photos ourselves and can take advantage of opportunities whenever they arise. Ultimately all this will help us to attract more donors and volunteers, and give more meaningful and engaging feedback to those we already have.

I am so pleased to be partnering and supporting Workaid, their ethics and energy match ours,” said Vanessa. “We are running training workshops with their staff so they can take their own photos for website and social media collateral, plus running a ‘Volunteer’s Voice’, ‘If Tools could talk’, and hopefully helping to document the projects they are doing actually on the ground in Africa. Also Workaid are kindly storing the cameras people donate to us in their warehouse and helping to ship them to Africa for us. Note, that we also distribute our recycled cameras here in the UK and Europe.

One of PhotoAid’s main photographers is David Newton, known to many in the photography world. David teaches extensively for Canon and also presents for SanDisk, Manfrotto and Lastolite, giving presentations and workshops all over the world. He, along with Ness, is running the first workshop at Workaid.
In my work I spend a lot of time ‘taking’ pictures. The whole language around photography is in taking or capturing something, but there is very little giving.  PhotoAid, and the partnership with Workaid, offers me the opportunity to give something back instead.”

PhotoAid is heading out to India in April for the charity, Born to be Beautiful. Later in the year we are also curating an exhibition of photography in the UK from the children of Ana by Karma, a charity based in Bhutan.

If you have old cameras, would like to be part of PhotoAid as a photographer, supporter or other capacity, or can donate time to fix up old cameras do get in touch with Vanessa at PhotoAid makeadifference@photoaid.org.uk  “We all have something to give, and it’s like kick-starting positive karma, you give a little and buckets of goodness come back to you in return. Thanks to everyone in the industry who is supporting us, it means a lot.”

£1million secured investment for growth

Along with the £1million investment secured for growth, Pixelrights have appointed three industry leaders* on their Board in the form of Christina Vaughan, founder of Image Source and former Vice President of PACA and former President of CEPIC as new Chairman, James Rutherford CIO of Hermes SourceCap and Bill Flind CEO of Ipsotek as Non-executive directors.

They have now expanded their in-house team to 17, moved to Farringdon, and set up offices for their technology development in Poland.

They have also expanded across the web into new platforms, licensing their image technology to major players from image libraries to digital asset management companies such as Sodatech, Capture, MEMAT, Xpertise and Image Protect, who are now integrating the technology into their platforms and extending it to their clients.

Pixelrights are also working with associations and brands from the RPS to Metro and Fujifilm with joint promotions with all the major camera retailers from WEX and Calumet to John Lewis and London Camera Exchange.

Photographers can now sell prints as a self-fulfil option or select a print partner, they have more designs to choose from to build their sites and they have the opportunity to learn from industry leaders from articles on their new newsletter and blog, plus photographers can connect on social media with their members’ community.

Pixelrights websites will also be further enhanced this year as the service grows from strength to strength. It will be under-going some significant feature-based enhancements that will bring it to the top of its game.

“We are confident that Pixelrights in the coming months will become the most compelling option for anyone looking to build a website,” said Shaun Curry, founder of Pixelrights. “We want to show that our roots are in photography and that we understand this better than any other platform. Also providing the very latest technology to help photographers gain more from using the internet to promote their work. You only have to read our reviews on Google to understand what we mean to the photographic community.”

Pixelrights are pleased to announce they were invited to the DMLA conference in New York and the ACE Picture Library conference in London to present their new .PXLR image format, which uses their revolutionary SmartFrame technology. Recently featured by Alamy, their SmartFrame innovation is taking the image industry by storm offering substantially more protection than the standard jpg format online.

All images on the Pixelrights platform are protected by SmartFrame which reduces image theft and ensures attribution wherever they are shared.

Pixelrights have significant new features in development for the Smart Frame technology which will allow it to be shared on any website outside of our own platform framework,” continued Shaun. “To add to these exciting new developments we have decided to introduce our WordPress plugin, that will provide free use of the Smart Frame to around 70 million WordPress based websites. This is implemented or redacted at the flick of a switch, it is incredibly powerful and simple to use.”
